A Brief History – Sunshine & Sons and CAVU Distilling
Our home and Distillery is located in the lush Sunshine Coast hinterland rainforest, just a short idyllic walk from Queensland’s iconic and much loved Big Pineapple.
Here we produce our range of Sunshine & Sons Gins, Vodkas, Liqueurs and yet to be released Nil Desperandum Rum – Australia’s first certified organic rum and due to be released on the 22/02/2022 at 2:22pm.
The Beginnings
Four best mates – Adam Chapman, Daniel Vinson, Matt Hobson and Michael Conrad – that for as long as they can each remember have shared a love for the promise and the memory: the allure and the warmth of Queensland’s beautiful subtropical Sunshine Coast. And beautifully made craft Spirits.
The decision in July 2019 was an easy one to make. Leave behind highly regarded and successful careers to follow their passion and create CAVU Distilling. CAVU is an aviation acronym that perfectly summed up what they thought about their spirits and their shared future – CEILING AND VISIBILITY UNLIMITED.
An Iconic Location
With a shared love for the Sunshine Coast and it’s rich history, it was a no-brainer to set up shop at The Big Pineapple when the opportunity came up. The iconic tourist attraction is a testament to the magic of big dreams, and along with it’s history as a hub of Queensland food agribusiness made it the perfect match for the start of a budding Distillery.
To help celebrate our famous neighbours 50th Anniversary in 2021, we’ve honoured the parfait deserts that made visiting The Big Pineapple the day ever, and created our Pineapple Parfait Gin – a contemporary tropical fruit salad gin packed with flavour that tastes like a holiday.
We Love Visitors!
Our distillery door is open from 10am – Sunset every day of the week.
We offer Distillery Tours and tastings of our entire range at no cost, and have a new cocktail terrace to sit and enjoy a bespoke Sunshine & Sons drink while enjoying the incredible view over our rainforest backyard surrounding the distillery.
We welcome everyone to drop in and say g’day, see you soon!
